    Types of Scholarships for International Students

    SNU Global Scholarship I, II

    International students in graduate programs are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applications must be submitted upon receiving an admission from SNU. 

    SNU Global Scholarship 1 (in Korean ‘초우수 외국인 학문후속 세대 지원‘)
    • Eligibility: International students in graduate programs
    • Benefits:
            - Tuition fee for 1 semester
            - 1,200,000 KRW per month for living expenses
            - Return airfare (only for freshmen)
    SNU Global Scholarship 2 (in Korean ‘초우수 외국인 핵심인재 지원‘)
    • Eligibility: International students in graduate programs
    • Benefits:
            - Tuition fee for 1 semester
            - Korean language course (Korean lagnuage special program) for 1 semester

    Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)

    • Eligibility: Graduate and undergraduate students
      • Those who wish to study in programs longer than 4 years- such as medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and architecture- cannot apply for this scholarship.
    • Number of awards: Up to 300 graduate students and 100 undergraduate students
    • Application period: Undergraduate - September / Graduate - January~February
    • Benefits:
           - Undergraduate program: Full tuition fee for 8 semesters, living expenses 900,000 KRW per month
           - Master's program: Full tuition fee for 4 semesters, living expenses 1,000,000 KRW per month
           - Ph.D program: Full tuition fee for 6 semesters, living expenses 1,000,000 KRW per month
           - Airfare
           - Korean language training fee for one year

    Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)

    • Eligibility: Newly-admitted graduates from universities in East, Southeast, and Central Asia and it is aimed at students who applied for designated departments of SNU
      *Please note that designated colleges/schools are subject to be changed.
    • Number of awards: Up to 20
    • Application period: During application for admission (Must apply at the same time)
    • Benefits:
            - Full tuition exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters
            - 500,000 KRW per month for living expenses

    Silk-Road Scholarship

    • Eligibility:
      Status: Graduate students who have admission to Seoul National University
      Nationality: Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Russia
      Major: Departments related with Humanities and Social Sciences (including Korean Language, History, Culture, Politics, and Economics)
    • Number of awards: TBA
    • Application period: June
    • Benefits:
             - Full tuition fees exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters
             - Living expenses for maximum of 600,000 KRW per month for 4 semesters
             - Airfare for one economy round trip 
             - Korean language training fee

    Global Hope Scholarship

    • Eligibility: International students from developing countries in the DAC list of ODA Recipients
    • Number of awards: TBA

    • Benefits: The level of details may be subject to change depending on the circumstance of the supporting organization (Samsung Dreams Scholarship Foundation)

    SNU President Scholarship (SPF)

    • Eligibility: A faculty member without Ph.D degree from universities in developing countries and newly admitted to SNU as a Ph.D student
      • Applicants can apply to pursue Ph.D in any research area but slection priority will be given to applicants doing exceptional work in engineering, medicine, public health, agriculture, developmental studies and Korean studies.
      • Priority will be given to faculty members from major universities in developing countries in Asia, Africa, South America etc.
    • Application period: During application for admission (must apply at the same time)
    • Benefits:
           - Full tuition fee for maximum 6 semesters
           - 1,500,000 ~ 2,000,000 KRW monthly stipend for 3~4 years
           - A round-trip airfare (within maximum limit)
           - Korean language training (Evening class during the regular semesters)
           - National health insurance coverage (amount of coverage can differ depending on the recipient's situation)

    Daesang Asia Foundation Scholarship

         - Eligibility:
                - Status: Graduate students who have admission to SNU
                - Nationality: Vietnam
                - Major: Liberal Arts, Social Science, Natural Science and Engineering
         - Number of awards: Up to 4
         - Application period: June and December
         - Benefits:
                - Full tuition for a maximum of 2 years for Master's program and 3 years for combined program
                - Living stipend: 12,000,000 KRW
                - 500,000 KRW for airfare support for the fist visit to Korea

    Overseas Koreans Scholarship

    • Eligibility: Overseas Korean students who seek to undertake graduate and undergraduate degrees in Korean Universities
    • Numbers of awards: TBA
    • Application period: TBA
    • Benefits:
           - Full tuition exemption for a maximum of 8 semesters for undergraduate
           - Full tuition exemption (except for the first semester) for graduate students
           - Living expenses for 900,000 KRW per month
           - Airfare
           - Korean language training fee
           - Insurance fees
    • Procedure: Submit applications to Korean Embassy → 1VW screening by Korean Embassy → Selection by the Overseas Koreans Foundation

    Hyundai Motor Jung Mong-Koo Global Scholarship

    • Eligibility: 
           - Status: Graduate students who have admission to SNU
           - Nationality: Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos (not applicable for those who hold Korean dual citizenship)
           - Major: Business/Economics, Natural Science and Engineering (Related field: Intelligence information technology, Bio-health, New energy industry), Korean language/studies
    • Number of awards: Up to 5
    • Application period: June and December
    • Benefits:
           - Full tuition
           - Study allowance 1,000,000 KRW per month
           - Settlement allowance 2,500,000 KRW one time
           - Completion grant 1,000,000 KRW upon successful completion of degree
           - Invitation to Foundation scholarship events (exchange campus and seminars)
           - Participation expenses for overseas academic conferences, and additional scholarships (seperate notices and guidelines will be given)

    Korean War Memorial Scholarship

    • Eligibility: Direct descendants of international Korean war veterans who applied to study undergraduate or graduate programs in Korea and recommendation by the Korean War Memorial Foundation
    • Benefits:
            - Full tuition exemption
            - Dormitory fees (subsidized by SNU)
            - Living expenses for 500,000 KRW per month
    • Procedure: Recommendation by each college → Admission by the Office of International Affairs
