Part-time Work

Application Eligibility

• Holders of a student visa (D-2) (Excluding students with F types of visa)
• Those who have a certain level of proficiency in Korean language and have excellent grades in the previous semester
  
  • For English track courses, TOEFL (iBT 71), IELTS 5.5 or higher score is required. However, students from countries whose native language is English are exempt from submission.
• Those who residing in Korea and confirmed by international student coordinator at Office of International Affairs

Allowed Time 

• Undergraduate students: less than 20 hours per week
  • Up to 25 hours per week permitted for international students with an average grade of B+ in the previous semester and a valid transcript of TOPIK level 5 or higher, or those who have completed the social integration prgoram (www.socient.go.kr)
  • 10 hours per week for those who have less than level 4 in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), or for those in the Enligh Track who do not meet the English proficiency level (TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 5.5 or less) 
  • Undergraduate students in excess semesters are not permitted for part-time work.
• Graduate students: less than 30 hours per week
  • Up to 35 hours per week permitted for international students with an average grade of A in the previous semester and a valid transcript of TOPIK level 5 or higher, or those who have completed the social integration program (www.socient.go.kr)
  • 15 hours per week for those who have less than level 4 in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), or for those in the English Track who do not meet the English proficiency level (TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 5.5 or less) 
  • Those who are preparing thesis after completion of regular degree are only allowed to work up to 30 hours.

Restricted Fields

• Act of private tutoring outlined by "operation of academy and private tutoring act"
• Working for advanced industry and laboratory, where industrial secret should be protected
• Act of working in gambling activity
• Act of working as merrymaking receptionist at pleasure bar or merrymaking bar
• Act of working at place which is contrary to good morals among moral business prescribed by section 2 moral business regulation act and section 2 of its enforcement ordinance.
• Other activities that deviate from student status or deemed necessary to restrict employment by attorney general

• Standard Labour Contract (Descriptions of work, period and time, hourly wage, and place must be in detail)
• Business Registration Certificate (The employer name written on part-time work confirmation form, contract, and business registration certificate must be identical)
• Score report for Korean Language Proficiency (TOPIK)
• Transcript
• Confirmation of compliance with the requirements for part-time employment for foreign students (Only applicable if the workplace is categorized as manufacturing or construction in its Business Registration Certificate)
• (Applicable for research activities within the affiliated university) When participating in research related to academic studies in the case of receiving a support fund from the university and Industry-Academic Cooperation Research and Developement Foundation, one must additionally submit 'Advisor Confirmation Letter' and 'University(Graduate) Recommendation Letter' (free of form).
  • In the case of research activities within the affiliated university, approval of qualification for academic related research is determined based on whether the research project awards credits. 

Procedures

Step 1: The applicant arranges a part-time job or internship individually and sign a contract

Step 2: The applicant and the officials from the intended place of work fill out a part-time work of foreign student confirmation from together.

Step 3: The applicant contacts SNU OIA with all the required documents and acquires an approval for the application (signed by SNU OIA).

Step 4: The applicant makes a visit reservation at the immigration office and files an application.

*Note: you can start working after the part-time work permit is granted. This means the date of application must be earlier than the starting date of the part-time work stated on the application form. KINSA

This website contains information about jobs, internships and different events. Job and internship posting are ket updated on a regular basis. The website is available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Mongolian, Russian, Vietnamese and Thai languages.

Craigslist

Craigslist is a classified advertisements website with sections devoted to housings, personals, jobs, items for sales, services, communities resumes and discussion forums. Craigslist Seoul is updated regularly with information about full and part-time jobs and internships.

Incruit

This site is very well-organized, presents a wealth of information on job offers and allows for quick, detailed and advanced search for part-time jobs, internships, full-time jobs, etc. They also offer information on reent contests and tips on how to write resumes. The main page when you enter the website has all the job offers by big companies, a short description and the deadlines, making it easy to search through the tons of job offers. The website itself and the front page is mostly Korean, but there is usually a job description and details written in obth Korean and English. They even have maps showing the location of the companies and guides on the application process.

Idealist

Idealist which is also known as Action Without Borders is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 and based in New York City and Portland, Oregon. Idealist is a global network of people and organizations working towards the goal of a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. Idealist connects millions of people around the globe with jobs and volunteer and action opportunities posted by 90,000 organizations around the world. This is a really useful website not only for finding jobs and internships around the world but also about volunteering activities, events and organizations. The website is available in English, Spanish and French. You can sign in to get regular updates and also post updates about jobs and internships.

Monster

It is one of the largest employment websites in the world which is operated and owned by Monster Worldwide, Inc. In 2006, Monster was one fo the 20 most visited websites out of 100 million worldwide, according to "comScore" Media Metrics (November, 2006). Monster is primarily used to help those seeking work to find job openings that match their skills and location. The company employs approximately 5,000 employees in 36 countries. The website has information about jobs and internships in Europe, Asia, North America and Middle East. It also provides advice and consultation on CVs/Resumes. Moreover, there is the option of 'career resources' where you can find tips on job finding, job and internship interviews and CV making.
